SAN DIEGO, Calif. - No. 11 Fresno Pacific (33-18) were eliminated from the GSAC Conference Tournament today with two losses. The Sunbirds took No. 3 Point Loma (37-11) to the 12th inning to give up a run to end the game 3-2. The Sunbirds then attempted to rebound back into the championship game against the Master's College (36-19), but fell again in a late rally from Master's in a 6-5 loss.
Against Point Loma, the Sunbirds managed to comeback from a 2-0 deficit in the eighth inning to secure extra innings, but they could not finish off the number-three team in the nation before Point Loma ended the game in the 12th inning.
Justin Keeney did his best to get the win for the Sunbirds against the Master's College; Keeney hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to put the Sunbirds up 5-4, but Master's College responded with a two-run homerun of their own to retake the lead. Keeney finished two-for-five with four RBIs. #Jared Coleman# had the Sunbirds' remaining RBI.
Case Rigby hit in both of the Sunbirds runs with his single in their loss to Point Loma. Rigby ended up one-for-five with two RBIs. #Tyler Pryor# and Coleman both had two hits for the Sunbirds.
The Sunbirds could not get their offense rolling as they had as against Biola. Point Loma managed to outhit the Sunbirds 15-6, while the Master's College outhit the Sunbirds 12-6.
Brian Oliver received the loss against Point Loma pitching an unusual 4.1 innings, despite keeping Point Loma scoreless before entering the extra innings. #Jacob Burns# closed for the Sunbirds against Master's College, but also got the loss after giving up four hits and two runs in the final two innings.
The Master's College and Point Loma Nazarene will face tomorrow in the GSAC championship game, and even though the Sunbirds will not play in the conference championship, their season is most likely not over. Being currently ranked No. 11 should put the Sunbirds through to post season play. The final rankings and the NAIA brackets will be posted on Friday, May 8 to see the fate of Fresno Pacific.
