#12 Sunbirds fall to #8 Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (13-5, 7-4 GSAC) took an early lead against No. 8 Azusa Pacific (17-3, 8-2 GSAC), but failed to take down the GSAC leader at their home field.  The Sunbirds fell 10-7, putting the Sunbirds 0-2 at Azusa.

Case Rigby and Anthony Lowell lead the Sunbirds offense with two and three RBIs, respectively.  Lowell ended up 3-of-4 at the plate with one run and three RBIs.  Josh Jackson and Rigby both hit homeruns for the Sunbirds.  Rigby's coming in the first inning to give the Sunbirds an early lead, and Jackson's in the ninth trying to comeback from a four run deficit.

Jacob Burns received the loss against Azusa, pitching four innings and giving up seven hits and eight runs with three strikeouts.  Daniel Brodie pitched three innings, giving up five hits and two runs with two strikeouts.

The Sunbirds jumped out early with a 3-0 lead after two innings, but Azusa rallied back with a five-run fourth inning and a three-run fifth inning, putting Fresno Pacific behind 3-8.  Despite the Sunbirds outscoring Azusa 4-2 in the final three and a half innings, it was not enough to overtake the No. 8 ranked team in the NAIA.

Saturday, March 7 the Sunbirds will head to La Mirada to take on GSAC competitor Biola.  Fresno Pacific will begin the doubleheader at 11:00 a.m.
