Sunbirds Split With Concordia

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (11-1, 6-1 GSAC) received their first loss this season against Concordia (5-6, 3-5 GSAC).  However, the Sunbirds managed to comeback to win their second game of the doubleheader.  Fresno Pacific's loss came in an extra inning, losing 5-7, and rebounding to win 5-2 in the second meeting.

 

Brian Oliver received the loss in the first game pitching the ninth and tenth inning giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts.  Oliver came in with a tough situation in the ninth inning with runners on first and third with no outs, and gave up a sacrifice fly for the tying score.  Oliver was going for his seventh save of the season.

 

However, Oliver came back strong for the Sunbirds in the second game.  Pinch hitting in the sixth down 2-1 with the bases loaded, Oliver hit a double to center clearing the bases for 3 RBIs.

 

Justin Keeney led the Sunbirds in game one going three for five with two runs, two RBIs and a homerun in the fifth inning to put the Sunbirds up 4-2.

 

Aaron Lynn started game one, pitching just over five innings with four strikeouts giving up six hits and four runs.  David Hawes started game two, pitching five innings with five strikeouts giving up two hits and two runs.

 

Kelyn Shellenberg (3-0) came in to finish game two allowing only one hit while the Sunbirds rallied back to scored four runs in the sixth inning.  Shellenberg tallied his third win of the season.

 

The Sunbirds will head south Wednesday, February 25 to take on Azusa Pacific for a single game, followed by a doubleheader at home on Saturday, February 28 against Point Loma Nazarene.  Wednesday's game in Azusa is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
