#16 Sunbirds Take Doubleheader vs Vanguard; Win 9-0 and 3-1

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (7-0, 4-0 GSAC) continues an awesome start to their first season ranked in the top 25 preseason poll.  The Sunbirds held Vanguard (1-4, 0-2 GSAC) to five hits and one run in both their wins, defeating Vanguard 9-0 and 3-1.

 

In the first game, the Sunbirds fired away in the first inning and kept Vanguard shutout throughout the game.  Case Rigby and Karlan Andrews both got 2 RBIs each in the first inning, the Sunbirds as a whole had five hits and fives runs.  Aaron Lynn took the Sunbirds into the seventh inning allowing only one hit and one walk with five strikeouts.

 

In the second game, the Sunbirds briefly fell behind in the third inning, but opened up the lead with a three-run fourth inning.  Jacob Burns got the win in the second game pitching five innings with five strikeouts, allowing three hits and one run.

 

Daniel Brodie and Brian Oliver came in and continued to shutdown Vanguard.  Both pitched an inning apiece and allowed no hits or runs.  Oliver got his fourth save of the season.

 

Rigby finished the day with four RBIs while Andrews had three RBIs and Alec Mehrten finished with two RBIs.  Justin Keeney also got an RBI in the first game.

 

The Sunbirds continue playing at home when they take on Oregon Tech on Monday, February 16.  The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
