Fresno Pacific comes back on Westmont

Sunbirds defeat Eagles 3-2

Fresno Pacific (4-0, 2-0 GSAC) remains unbeaten after their comeback victory over Westmont (1-7, 0-3 GSAC).  Westmont had an early 2-0 lead over the Sunbirds, but the Sunbirds fought back scoring in each of the final three innings to win 3-2.

 

Justin Keeney, Anthony Lowell and Karlan Andrews had two hits and an RBI each to lead the Sunbirds in the victory.  #Jake Burns# also got a hit for Fresno Pacific.

 

David Hawes pitched the majority of the game allowing four hits and two runs while striking out six Eagles in six innings, but Kelyn Shellenberg got the win pitching the end of the eighth and beginning of the ninth inning where the Sunbirds took the lead.  #Brian Oliver# finished the game for the save.  Both Shellenberg and Oliver each had one strikeout.

 

Westmont had a strong fifth inning after four innings with only one hit from both teams.  Westmont hit two singles and a double in the fifth to score their only two runs of the game while the Sunbirds remained hitless through the fifth inning.  Beginning in the sixth inning, the Sunbirds got hot scoring a run in each inning with two hits in the sixth, three hits in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

 

Shellenberg struck out the first batter in the ninth, and then Oliver came in the finish the game with one batter popping out and the final batter striking out.  The Sunbirds did not have to step up to the plate in the final inning.

 

Fresno Pacific will continue their home games, next against British Columbia Thursday, February 12.  The teams will take the field at 2:00 p.m. at the Fresno Pacific Field.
