Women's soccer falls 1-0 to No. 17 Point Loma

Sunbirds open GSAC playoffs Tuesday in Riverside

SAN DIEGO, CA. – The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team ended regular season play with a 1-0 loss at No. 17 Point Loma Nazarene Saturday afternoon in San Diego.

But the Sunbirds' season is not over. They will travel to Riverside Tuesday to face No. 8-ranked Cal Baptist in the Golden State Athletic Conference post-season playoffs.

Point Loma relied on a dominant first half performance and a goal by Brooke Winklepeck in the 17th minute to secure Saturday's victory.

The Sunbirds started the game on their heels and were on the defensive for much of the first half.

Despite a few players sidelined due to first-half injuries, Fresno Pacific played with more heart and determination to open the second half. The Sunbirds created a handful of quality crosses that PLNU's tough defensive line and GK Tiffany Kracy dealt with effectively to earn the shutout.

With the loss, the Sunbirds fall to 9-6-1 and finish GSAC play at 4-5-1.

This is the second consecutive year the FPU women's soccer has qualified for post-season play.
