Sunbirds nab second win of the day

Fresno, Calif – Fresno Pacific notched another win this afternoon against San Jose.  San Jose kept it close the first half, but Fresno Pacific outscored San Jose 3-0 in the third and kept their distance to finish 14-9.

San Jose scored first, but the Sunbirds quickly came back to take a 2-1 lead.  The game remained at least a two-score game the whole first half.  Caleb Goings, the Fresno Pacific goalie, had nine saves, helping the Sunbirds into halftime with their 7-5 lead.  Riley Warner came in the second half and kept San Jose scoreless in the third quarter where the Sunbirds stretched their lead.  In the fourth the Sunbirds showed a lot of talent as Gabe Calderon managed two amazing steals back-to-back, but the Sunbirds couldn't convert on either breakaway.  They were able to maintain their lead to finish with the victory.

Luke MacAlpine lead all scores with five goals.

With their win over San Jose, the Sunbirds head to the championship game tonight against the winner of the other bracket, consisting of Fresno State, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz.  Potentially, the championship game at 6:30 tonight could be a rematch of last night exciting game against Santa Cruz that came down to game deciding goals in the final seconds of the game.
