Fresno, Calif.- Two quick goals by the Sunbirds set the tone early as they routed Menlo College 5-1. Freshman Tori Alvarez and Sophomore Jessica Perechica each scored within the first five minuets to give the Sunbirds a comfortable 2-0 cushion.
"I'm very pleased with the start of the game," stated head coach Erik Farfan. "We have been working on finishing in the air and tonight we were able to do that."
Before Menlo was able to squeeze in a goal of their own, the Sunbirds doubled their lead to go up 4-0. Alvarez would score again along with junior Danielle Dickie to add to the plethora of goals.
Menlo was able to take advantage of a shot that ricochet off goal keeper Justine Caldera and netted their lone goal of the half, which made the score 4-1 at the end of the first period.
The intensity picked up as Menlo tighten up thier defense but the Sunbirds returned the favor, which kept both teams scoreless for most of the second stanza. Forward Ashley Sherr ended the second half drought with a goal at the 18:05 mark to give the Sunbirds a 5-1 lead, which would stand as the final score.
With the win the Sunbirds improve to 2-0-1. They will be back in action this Saturday, September 13th as they host Holy Names College. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
