Former Sunbird student-athlete Catie Speas joined the Fresno Pacific Athletics staff in 2024 and currently serves as the Athletic Operations Coordinator and Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach.
Speas has remained an integral part of the Sunbird volleyball program following her playing career and helped guide FPU through a historic 2025 season in which the Birds won 27 games, two PacWest champions, advanced to the NCAA West Regional, and reached as high as #8 in the national poll. As an assistant coach, Speas contributes to recruiting, player development, practice preparation, team operations, travel, alumni engagement, fundraising, and other day-to-day needs of the program.
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Speas transitioned into the role of Athletic Operations Coordinator, where she works closely with FPU's athletic directors to support the daily operations of the department and its student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Much of her work happens behind the scenes, coordinating key functions such as staff and student-athlete onboarding, department-wide events, facility and scheduling logistics, purchasing and administrative processes, internal communication, and the implementation and management of departmental systems such as Teamworks. She also assists with special projects, game and event operations, vendor coordination, and other initiatives that help keep the department running efficiently.
Prior to joining the athletics staff, Speas was a standout setter for the Sunbirds from 2020-23, recording 1,747 assists and 118 service aces in 96 matches. Before arriving at FPU, the Gilbert, Arizona native was a member of Scottsdale Community College's 2019 NJCAA National Championship team. Speas began her coaching career while still competing as a Sunbird student-athlete, spending two years at Buchanan High School in Clovis, CA. During her time with the program, she helped the girls' team capture a 2023 Valley Championship.
Speas graduated from Fresno Pacific in 2023 with a degree in Business Management. Outside of athletics, Speas enjoys attending concerts, spending time at the beach or lake, traveling, and spending time with friends. She attends The Well Community Church.
