Former Sunbird student-athlete Catie Speas joined the FPU Athletics staff in 2024.
Speas was a standout on the Sunbirds Volleyball team from 2020 - 2023, recording 1747 assists and 118 aces in 96 matches. Before starring at FPU, the Gilbert, AZ native was a NJCAA national champion at Scottsdale Community College in 2019. Speas' coaching career began during her playing days, when she spent two years as boy's JV Head Coach and girl's assistant coach at Buchanan High School. During this time she helped lead the girl's team to a 2023 Valley championship.
In addition to her role on the Volleyball staff, Speas also serves as an administrative assistant for FPU Athletics' Sports Medicine department. She works closely with the athletic trainers, including booking student-athletes’ doctors' appointments, working with insurance, managing inventory, student-workers, and more.
Speas graduated from FPU in 2023 with a degree in Business Management, and recently started a new business, Central Scout, that helps guide student-athletes through the recruitment process.
In her free time, Speas enjoys going to concerts, spending time at the beach or lake, and hanging out with friends. Â She attends the Well Community Church.Â
