Regarded as one of the most significant contributors to the emergence of USA men's volleyball as a perennial world power, the name Tom Read is synonymous with USA volleyball success. 

As a player, Tom was a three-time USVBA (now USAV) 1st Team All-American, a four-year member of the USA Men's National Team, and concluded an outstanding playing career by competing for five years in the IVA professional ranks. 

As if a tremendous playing career were not enough, Tom has had even more impact on American volleyball as a coach and teacher for the last 39 years.

At the high school level, Tom has coached volleyball at El Toro, Mission Viejo, Trabuco Hills, and Clovis West High School.  At the college level, he has coached at Santa Ana Junior College and Chapman University. 

Tom has coached with the Men's National Team in various roles -- Junior National Team Head Coach, World University Games Assistant Coach, USA National Team Assistant Coach, and Olympic Sports Festival Head Coach.

He has coached in the International Volleyball Association, and served as an Italian Volleyball Professional League Assistant Coach. He has directed over 100 volleyball camps nationwide. He is a National and International Clinician (CAP Level 4 Coach).  

Tom attended Costa Mesa High School before going on to Orange Coast College and Whittier College. At Orange Coast College, Tom was named 1st Team All-Conference in basketball. At Whittier College, he was a 1st Team All-American in volleyball, and was named Honorable Mention All-American in basketball. Tom earned his A.A. from Orange Coast College in 1967. He earned his B.A. from Whittier College in 1969 and his M.Ed. from Whittier in 1985.

Coach Read has two children: Amy (23) and T.J. (21).  In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, hunting and fishing.
