John Florance was named an assistant coach with the Fresno Pacific men’s basketball program in August of 2014.
 
Florance joins FPU after serving as a Sacramento City College assistant coach from 2009-13. Prior to his work at Sac City, Florance was an assistant coach at William Jessup University from 2005-09.
 
He also served as the head coach and director of the Nor Cal Warriors Basketball club from 2007-14.
 
Florance’s coaching career began at Cascade College as the head men’s junior varsity coach in 1998, while also serving as the second assistant on the NAIA varsity team.
 
While he enters his 12th season coaching, Florance spent many years as a player. He spent two seasons at Santa Rosa Junior College, being named All-Conference both seasons and All-State Honorable Mention in 1996. He then attended Biola University from 1996-98, where he was named All-Conference two seasons.
 
Florance went on to play professionally for the V.B.L. Australia Wangratta Warriors in 1999 and led the league in scoring at 36.3 points per game. From 2001-02, he served in the Army and played for the All Army men’s basketball team in Fort Hood, TX. He also played for Chemitz Germany in 2003.
 
Florance earned a Bachelor of Science in physical education from Biola in 1998. He will be continuing his education in the spring at FPU to recieve his Masters in kinesiology.
 
During his free time, Florance enjoys watching movies, traveling, playing ping-pong and challenging anyone to a game of one-on-one. He preaches the saying, “how hard you practice is how hard you play”, and lives by the verse Philippians 4:13.
 
John and his wife Cindy have been married for 13 years and have three children Jacob (10), Kaylee (7) and Josh (2).
