As a Junior (2016) - Appeared in 22 games for the Sunbirds....tossed 4.1 innings on the mound...Academic All-PacWest.

Prior to FPU - Spent two seasons at the University of San Diego (NCAA D1)....prepped at Los Gatos High School, where he played baseball for four years, including two on varsity....earned all-league honors, while hitting .430 overall.

Personal - Son of Frank and Terri Bergandi....has one brother, Joey....played baseball with his brother, Joey, at USD....chose Fresno Pacific for its Christian atmosphere and championship tradition....person he most admires is his dad....likes to eat cheeseburgers....favorite book is When God Whispers Your Name, by Max Lucado....likes to pray as a pregame ritual....listens to country music....favorite TV show is Bones....person he would most like to meet is his favorite athlete Buster Posey....roots for the San Francisco Giants....attends Calvary Church....hobbies include working on cars and drawing....Matt is a communications major who plans on playing professional baseball and then pursuing a career in coaching.
