Bob Jacobsen rejoined the Sunbird staff in 2013.
An alum of Roosevelt High School, Jacobsen went on to play baseball atĀ Fresno State. In his time at Fresno State, he was primarily a relief pitcher.Ā He led the Bulldogs in ERA (2.72) in 1982 andĀ in saves (8) in 1984. He ranks 3rd in career saves at Fresno State.
Jacobsen was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 14th round in 1984. He played for three years in their organization.Ā
He began his coaching career as an assistant at Clovis West High School. He then took over as head coach at Roosevelt High School, and later was the first head coach at Sunnyside High School.Ā He is known as one of the best pitching coaches in the area.
Jacobsen was the Sunbirds' pitching coach for three seasons (08-10). In that time, he coached GSAC Pitcher of the Year and All-American Chris Schwinden, who went on to become the first FPU player to reach the major leagues. He also coached three All-Conference pitchers. His 2008 pitching staff led the GSAC in ERA, strikeouts and fewest hits allowed, and was 2nd in walks allowed. His 2009 pitching staff was 2nd in the GSAC in ERA and strikeouts, and led the conference in walks allowed.
Coach Jacobsen and his wife, Glenda, have two sons: Robbie and Jake.Ā
