As a Junior (2014) - Made 13 starts on the mound for the national champion Sunbirds....posted a 7-3 record with a 2.69 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 80 1/3 innings pitched....tossed eight scoreless innings with six strikeouts to earn the win in World Series victory over Shorter (5/15)....took a no-hitter into the 8th inning and finished with seven strikeouts in win over Point Loma (4/12)....threw 8 2/3 innings of one-run ball in win over Academy of Art (4/19)....tossed seven innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts to earn win at Cal State Monterey Bay (3/22).

Prior to FPU - Spent two seasons at Fresno City College earning CVC pitcher of the year, first team all-state, first team all-conference and FCC athlete of the year honors....went 8-0 with a 1.89 ERA as a sophomore....best individual game was a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts vs. West Hills....prepped at Buchanan High School, playing two years on varsity for coach Tom Donald....went 12-1 with a 1.87 ERA as a senior earning TRAC pitcher of the year honors, first team all-TRAC, first team all-Valley and second team all-state....greatest sports moment was winning the 2010 Valley title with Buchanan.

Personal - Born January 10....son of Jim and Rhonda Merlo....has two siblings, Jace and Brooke....his father played college football at Stanford and spent seven years in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints....person he admires most is his sister Brooke....chose FPU for its great academics and good community....favorite food is Chipotle....favorite shows are Entourage and Breaking Bad....favorite band is Flosstradamus....favorite team is the New Orleans Saints....favorite athletes are Drew Brees and Carmelo Anthony....person he'd most like to meet is James Franco....friend on another college team is Jack Karraker of Oregon....attends Northside Christian Church....Drew is a kinesiology pre-physical therapy major.
