Biography
Dora Vega (formerly Yanez-Mejia), played three seasons for the Sunbirds from 2004-2006 and is playing out her final year of eligibility in 2012.
As a Junior (2006) - A major contributor for the Sunbirds, starting all 17 of the team's matches....recorded an assist in win over Embry-Riddle (9/6).
As a Sophomore (2005) - Appeared in every one of the Sunbirds' 17 matches, including 16 starts... notched 2 goals and 1 assist, totaling 5 points... totaled 16 shots, 12 of which were on goal for a .125 shooting percentage and a .750 on-goal percentage.
As a Freshman (2004) - Appeared in each of the team's 18 contests... scored four goals and two assists for 10 points.
Prior to FPU - Dora is a graduate of Washington Union High School...She played varsity soccer all four years under coach Chandler West...In addition to soccer, Dora was a part of the track team for the Panthers...She went to Thailand in 2006 to help with the tsunami relief efforts.
Personal - Originally from Easton, Dora is the daughter of Mariano and Doris Maravilla...she has two brothers and one sister...she is married to Ernie Vega, who played soccer at Fresno State and for the Fresno Fuego...she has three daughters, ages four, three, and one...her greatest sports thrill was having the opportunity to watch her favorite athlete, Zinedine Zidane, play in 2006 for Real Madrid...favorite TV show is "Pardon the Interruption"...favorite musical artist is Matthew West...favorite sports team is the San Francisco Giants...favorite book is the Bible...person she would like to meet the most is Pele...the person she admires the most is her former coach Chandler West, who passed away in March 2010...hobbies include spending time with her children and husband.
