Prior to FPU - Began his collegiate career at Fresno State, spending three years with the Bulldogs….earned a spot in the rotation as a freshman and was second on the team with 58 strikeouts, including a season-high nine vs. New Mexico State....helped the team win the WAC tournament that year and was named to the All-Tournament team....earned a start in the 2009 NCAA Regional vs. UC Irvine....became the second player in Bulldog history to face the minimum, 27 batters, in a complete game vs. Lipscomb (3/28/09)…. prepped at Roseville High School….playing four years of baseball, including three on varsity for coach Hank DeMello…. named to the Rawlings Pre-Season All-American Team….two-time all-league....as a senior struck out 72 batters in 52 innings…. also played two years of basketball....was selected in the MLB Amateur Draft out of high school (2008, 45th round, Oakland A's).

Derek is a Kinesiology major with plans of becoming a sports psychiatrist.
