As a Junior (2011) - Established himself as a workhorse, starting 14 games as the team's #2 starting pitcher....tied for the team lead in wins, going 7-1 with a 2.98 ERA in 87 2/3 innings pitched....struck out 68 batters and walked 31....tossed six scoreless innings giving up just 2 hits and striking out 7 in win vs. Bethany (1/31)....threw 7 1/3 innings of 2-run ball, striking out 6 to earn the win against eventual national champion Concordia (3/1)....tossed 8 scoreless innings and struck out 5 in win vs. The Master's (3/10)....posted a quality start with a season-high 9 strikeouts at GSAC champion Cal Baptist (3/16)....threw 7 2/3 innings giving up just 3 hits and 1 run with 6 strikeouts in win vs. Point Loma Nazarene (3/22).

As a Sophomore (2010)- Appeared in 18 games as a starter and reliever for the Sunbirds....in 46 2/3 innings, went 5-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 42 strikeouts....pitched five scoreless innings in a start vs. Academy of Art (2/20), striking out six to earn the win....fanned six batters in four innings of relief in win at Azusa Pacific (4/10)....struck out nine in six innings of relief in win at San Diego Christian (5/1).

As a Freshman (2009) - Matt appeared in 9 games as a relief pitcher for the Sunbirds...He had an ERA of 8.76 in 12.1 innings pitched...Matt accumulated 10 strikeouts during his appearances

Prior to FPU - Matt is a graduate of San Joaquin Memorial High School where he played baseball for coach Pete Dalena...also played basketball for coach Pat Geil and was a Fresno Bee All-Star.

Personal -  Born January 14, 1990....is the son of Mike and Diane Mazzoni...He has two brothers, Mike Jr. and Carlo and a sister, Julia.....favorite food is anything his dad cooks.....favorite books are the Bible and "Moneyball"....favorite sports teams are the LA Dodgers and Lakers....favorite athlete is Chris Carpenter....favorite TV show is "Dexter".....person he most admires is FPU sports information director Jeremiah Wood....favorite musical artist is Snow Patrol.....played summer ball for the Mankato Moondogs in 2011.....attends St. Anthony's Church....Matt is a Communications major with plans of going into journalism or a related field.
