COSTA MESA, Calif. — Fresno Pacific women's soccer fell to Vanguard 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Sunbirds managed to put four of their 10 shots on goal while facing 21 shots, including 14 on frame.
Kimberly Garcia provided an early opportunity for the Sunbirds, striking the left woodwork at :47 in the first half. Despite this, Vanguard soon took control. Fresno Pacific's goalkeeper,
Brielle Calhoun, was busy early, saving shots from the Lions. However, Vanguard broke the deadlock when Kate Burns scored at 31:12, followed by an assist to Aneala Sibayan at 31:48, putting the Sunbirds down 2-0 by halftime.
In the second half, the Sunbirds faced continued pressure, with Calhoun making multiple saves. Despite the challenges,
Gizelle Aguirre managed a shot on frame, and the Sunbirds earned a corner at 62:51. However, Vanguard extended its lead to 3-0 at 63:45. Fresno Pacific then generated their best attacking sequence, with Garcia and
Julianna Hernandez forcing saves, and Garcia hitting the top woodwork at 71:34. The match concluded with the Sunbirds unable to find the back of the net despite late attempts by
Royce Kilby and
Bailey Roberson.
Calhoun recorded 11 saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Garcia led the Sunbirds with three shots, including one on goal.
