Wheelock's Home Runs Pave The Way To 12-3 Triumph Over No. 22 Warriors

Wheelock & Dilworth Knock the Ball Out the Park In Series Finale Win

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific baseball team closed out the series with a split against nationally ranked Westmont. The 'Birds came back from the first loss of the day with three home runs in the 12-3 triumph over the Warriors.

GAME 1 | FPU 2, WC 3
To kick things off, FPU took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after Garrett Henderson singled through the left side and later scored on a single by Chris Clement. The score was 1-0 at the end of the fourth inning.
In the sixth inning, the Sunbirds extended their lead when Darryl Dilworth Jr. singled on a bunt, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout, eventually scoring on a groundout by Henderson. The score was 2-0 in favor of the Blue and Orange at the end of the sixth inning.

Westmont tied the game in the seventh inning with back-to-back home runs. Soon after, the Warriors pulled ahead in the eighth inning after a single, followed by an RBI double, bringing the score to 3-2. Despite a late single and a walk by Fresno Pacific in the ninth inning, Westmont maintained its lead and won the first game of the day.

On the mound, freshman Drew Petty delivered an impressive performance for the Sunbirds, pitching a complete game. Petty allowed only four hits and issued no walks while striking out six batters.

GAME 2 | FPU 12, WC 3
The Sunbirds closed the series by tallying three home runs and five doubles, while holding the Warriors to five hits and three runs. The 'Birds opened the scoring in the second inning when Titus Wheelock hit a solo home run to right center, putting the team up 1-0. In the third inning, Vincent Robinson made it home on a wild pitch following an error and two stolen bases.

In the fourth, Wheelock delivered again with another solo home run, extending the lead to 3-1. A significant fifth inning saw the Sunbirds add three more runs, highlighted by a two-run homer from Dilworth and a wild pitch that allowed Henderson to score, giving them a 6-2 advantage.

The sixth inning was pivotal, with Fresno Pacific scoring five runs. Brennan Johnson and Henderson contributed with RBIs, while Wheelock and Clement drove in runs with doubles, pushing the lead to 11-2. In the seventh, Eric Wilson's double and Johnson's RBI single added one more to their tally. Westmont managed a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome the Sunbirds' lead.

On the mound, Jordan Isla had a solid performance on the mound for the FPU, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out three batters. Isla demonstrated control with only two walks and struck batters out at key moments, achieving a WHIP of 1.00.

FPU Baseball is 11-10 overall, boasting a 6-4 conference record. The team is currently ranked third in conference, trailing behind Point Loma (14-0) and Westmont (11-5).
