'Birds Take on No. 13 Bulldogs in Fresno Showdown

FRESNO, Calif. — In a challenging matchup, Fresno Pacific women's water polo fell to No. 13 Fresno State 27-5 on Friday evening at the Fresno State Aquatics Center. The Sunbirds managed to score three power-play goals against the Division I powerhouse thanks to the team's resilience and determination.

Fresno State dominated the first period, opening with a string of three consecutive goals. However, FPU's Dakota Lambert, the recent WWPA Defensive Player of the Week, briefly interrupted the streak with a goal, but Fresno State quickly responded with another five goals, including a penalty shot, to end the quarter ahead 10-2.

In the second period, the Bulldogs extended their lead, contributing to a 15-3 score by halftime. Lambert was able to tally another one for the 'Birds in the third, but Fresno State shut them down with six more goals to push ahead 21-4.

Despite an impressive goal by Maggie Cook in the fourth quarter, Fresno State closed the game with a 27-5 victory, as expected from the No. 13 team in the nation. Overall, the 'Birds managed to score in every period and kept the Bulldogs to a low five goals in the second period.

In goal, Evalena Filippi recorded seven saves and added two steals to her defensive performance.
