TURLOCK, Calif. — No. 4 Fresno Pacific continued its dominant season Friday, sweeping Stanislaus State 25-15, 25-20, 25-14 to improve to 22-0 overall and 10-0 in CCAA play. The Sunbirds hit .340 as a team, recording 43 kills and eight total blocks.
FPU controlled the opening set early, building an 8-3 lead behind
Rylee Pitney's kills.
Itzel Aguayo,
Madelyn Feramisco and
Makayla Smith helped extend the advantage, while a Feramisco service run and a Smith-Aguayo block pushed the lead to 16-5. Stanislaus made a late push, but the Sunbirds closed out the set 25-15.
The Warriors challenged FPU in the second, taking a brief lead before the Sunbirds responded with timely blocks and kills. After Stanislaus tied the set at 16-16, Pitney put FPU back in front and Smith served four straight points, including three Weiss kills, to create separation. A Smith-Aguayo block sealed the 25-20 win.
Fresno Pacific carried that momentum into the third set, using a
Jocelyn Yang ace, a Feramisco ace and several Stanislaus errors to build an early lead. Smith and Pitney continued to find openings, while the Sunbirds added a block from Pitney and
Morgan Castaneda. Smith delivered three late kills, and a
Devyn Castaneda ace helped finish the 25-14 set and complete the sweep.
Smith led FPU with 15 points, 11 kills, two aces, seven digs and four blocks.
Mikayla Weiss recorded 31 assists and added six kills on nine attacks, while
Devyn Castaneda led the defense with 14 digs.
Morgan Castaneda contributed seven kills on 10 swings, hitting .700, and added three blocks.
The No. 4 Sunbirds remain unbeaten 22-0 and continue their CCAA campaign 10-0. The 'Birds are the only undefeated team in the conference and lead the CCAA standings in several categories, including hitting percentage, points-per-game, and service aces. Middle blocker Pitney remains seated first in the nation when it comes to hitting percentage (.450) and the team follows third in the nation (.305).
In its first year in the CCAA, FPU volleyball has clinched its spot in the 2026 conference championships hosted by Cal State East Bay.
