LA MIRADA, Calif. — Taking a trip to SoCal, Fresno Pacific women's basketball contended against Biola at Chase Gymnasium, and fell 73-50, despite recording 8 blocks and 6 steals.
Fresno Pacific started the match with determination, scoring early with a layup by
Kira Wilmurt at 9:07. A fast-break 3-pointer by
Angela Whitfield, assisted by
Nina Wisniewski, at 6:54 tied the score at 5-5, marking a key moment for the visitors. Despite a strong defensive effort, including three steals and a block from
Grace Brown, the Sunbirds faced challenges with turnovers, committing seven in the quarter. Biola capitalized on these opportunities, building a lead.
Sienna Evans added a key defensive contribution with a late steal, but Biola ended the quarter ahead, 22-7.
The Sunbirds found a spark midway through the second quarter with a fast-break 3-pointer by
Nina Wisniewski at 6:35, narrowing Biola's lead. Fresno Pacific continued to press offensively, with
Aaliyah Seuell adding a 3-pointer at 3:42, contributing to their effort to stay competitive. Whitfield's 3-pointer at 1:54 brought the Sunbirds within reach, but Biola maintained a lead.
Trinity Tolbert closed the scoring for Fresno Pacific with a 3-pointer at 0:25, yet Biola's late 3-pointer at 0:03 kept them ahead. The quarter ended with the Sunbirds outscoring Biola 16-15, but Biola led 37-23 at halftime.
The Sunbirds initiated the third quarter with a quick scoring burst, highlighted by Tolbert's 3-pointer at 9:13, narrowing the gap to 37-26. Evans contributed with a fast-break 3-pointer at 8:02, further closing the deficit to 40-31. Despite their efforts, Fresno Pacific struggled with turnovers and defensive stops, allowing Biola to extend their lead through efficient free throw shooting.
The Sunbirds initiated the fourth quarter with a pair of free throws by Evans at 9:33. Whitfield contributed a three-pointer at 6:16, aided by an assist from Wisniewski, as part of their push to reduce the deficit. Fresno Pacific's defense could not prevent Biola from extending their lead, but Evans added another three-pointer at 4:28, yet Biola's consistent scoring maintained their advantage. The quarter concluded with both teams scoring 12 points, and the game ended with Biola winning 73-50.
Whitfield contributed 10 points, including three 3-pointers, and secured seven rebounds. Tolbert scored 10 points while adding one assist and three rebounds.
Mason Long recorded two blocks and collected five rebounds. Evans scored nine points and converted two 3-pointers.
The Sunbirds are now 6-12 overall and 3-10 in PacWest competition.
