STOCKTON, Calif. — The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds fell to No. 19 University of the Pacific with a final score of 23-6 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool on Thursday evening. The Sunbirds scored three power-play goals but could not keep pace with the Tigers' offensive surge, particularly in the third quarter.
Pacific dominated the opening quarter with a formidable start, establishing a 3-1 lead. Fresno Pacific's
Regan Azevedo added two power-play goals on the board, thanks to an assist from
Kennedy Green. Followed by
Maggie Cook who netted one of her own, but the Tigers extended their lead to close the first quarter at 3-6. It was the highest scoring period for the 'Birds. The second quarter saw Pacific continue their offensive momentum with goals, increasing their advantage to 4-12 by halftime.
Emma Cook was the sole Sunbird to score in the second, taking a pass from her sister M. Cook to send one into the back of the cage. The third period saw a similar pattern with Azevedo scoring a penalty goal and
Sofia DeRollo netting the final FPU goal in the fourth. However, the Tigers secured the victory with two more goals in the end, resulting in a decisive 23-6 win.
Offensively, Azevedo led the Sunbirds with a hat trick, marking her first game back in the 2026 season.
Emma Cook contributed both a goal and an assist, adding to the offensive effort.
Maggie Cook also posted a goal and an assist, taking five shots during the game. In goal,
Evalena Filippi made two saves, providing key defensive support.
After a tough opening week of play, the Sunbirds hold an overall record of 0-3.
