FRESNO, Calif. — Despite leading at halftime, Fresno Pacific men's basketball fell to Jessup in a closely contested game, 86-81, on Tuesday night at the Special Events Center. The Sunbirds were up against a strong Warrior team in the second half, and when the score was tied 80-80, it became a fierce battle to see who would come out on top.
Fresno Pacific opened the game by quickly establishing a lead with an impressive early 3-pointer from
Nick Davidson at 19:27, followed by a layup from
Liam Switzer. The teams exchanged leads multiple times, with the Sunbirds capitalizing on a series of 3-pointers, including contributions from
Logan Kilbert and
Seth Brown.
Brandon Gibson Jr. bolstered the home team with consistent scoring, contributing crucial free throws and layups that pushed the momentum in their favor. At one point,
Isaac Peralta went towards the paint, spun mid-air and sent a no look pass to Gibson, who sank a three-pointer at 9:30. High energy plays were in constant supply for the Sunbirds. Gibson's "and-one" at 6:03, where he blazed past a Warrior defender to score, sent the Sunbird bench to their feet. In the closing minutes, they extended their lead with a jumper by Peralta at the buzzer, finishing the first half ahead 46–36.
The Sunbirds kicked off the second half with a 3-pointer by
Seth Brown at 18:45, assisted by Davidson. That wasn't all for the Chino Hills native! Brown continued his strong performance with another 3-pointer at 17:52, assisted by Peralta, increasing the home team's advantage to 52–41. However, the Warriors capitalized on Sunbird turnovers and came back 79-76, claiming their first big lead of game. Playing an aggressive and effective game, Gibson fouled out for the 'Birds on a valiant attempt to stop the Warriors. This fired up the team as they pushed ahead. Notably,
Gabriel Quiette saved the day before the ball bounced out of bounds, sailing it to Peralta who gave him a chance to tip-in a layup to tie it 80-80. With the clock winding down, Jessup seized control in the final minute. They capitalized on multiple free throws, ultimately securing an 86–81 victory over the 'Birds. The game ended with Fresno Pacific falling short, despite notable contributions from Brown and Peralta.
Offensively, Brown led the scoring with 21 points, including four 3-pointers and converting 9 of 13 free throws. Gibson Jr. also tallied 21 points, making 7 of 9 field goals and a perfect 5 of 5 from the line. Peralta contributed with 12 points and recorded six assists, nearly achieving a double-double with nine rebounds.
Amar Hot made a defensive impact by collecting two steals and
Logan Kilbert contributed 10 points overall.
The Sunbirds stand at 7-10 overall and 6-5 in PacWest play.
