HONOLULU, Hawaii — Fresno Pacific volleyball captured its eighth straight-win with a decisive 3-0 sweep over Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-17, and 25-19.
"Great weekend on the road. It's always hard to play Hawaii," said head coach
Kelsee Montagna. "Long trip and even longer days but the team came ready to play. We are so proud of what we have accomplished so far and still have a lot more to do. We are ready to get back home and just keep getting better day by day!"
Fresno Pacific started strong in the first set against Hawaii Pacific, with
Madelyn Feramisco and
Mikayla Weiss leading the charge. After an early exchange of points, the Sunbirds created a turning point with a four-point run from 7-7 to 11-7, supported by a series of kills from Feramisco. The Sunbirds closed the set with a decisive 6-1 run, securing a 25-13 victory in the opening set.
Fresno Pacific took control early in the second set, establishing a lead with consecutive kills by
Geneva Elliott and
Cambria Waites. After a service error by Hawaii Pacific at 6-3, the Sunbirds capitalized on multiple attack errors to push the score to 10-4.
Sydney Hancock contributed significantly with a service ace and a kill, helping extend the lead to 11-5. At one point, middle
Itzel Aguayo and Weiss stopped the Sharks with a mid-court block to make it 23-16 in the second set. Despite a brief push from Hawaii Pacific, the 'Birds remained dominant, with
Rachel Plantinga sealing the set with a deep corner kill, to clinch it at 25-17.
In the third set, the Blue and Orange emerged victorious with a 25-19 score, maintaining their undefeated streak. The set began with Hawaii Pacific taking an early lead, 4-1, capitalizing on the Sunbirds' errors. However, Fresno Pacific responded effectively as
Makayla Smith's consecutive points tied the score at 5-5. A critical moment occurred when Hancock registered three consecutive kills, propelling the Sunbirds to a 13-10 lead.
Amanda Lauer proved instrumental later, scoring five points, including the final kill at 25-19.
