SURPRISE, Arizona.- In a battle for fifth place at the PacWest Championships, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds fell short to the MSU Denver Roadrunners 4-2 despite a strong start.
The 'Birds opened the match against MSU Denver with an impressive showing in doubles, taking two out of three matches to secure the first point of the day. The tandem of
Martin Ramirez and
Gregor Kliimask clinched a 6-4 win on court two, while
Brodie Sodersten and
Emilio Seelbach matched that result with a 6-4 victory on court three.
Although the Sunbirds dropped the top doubles match, their early momentum put them ahead 1-0 heading into singles play. However, MSU Denver responded forcefully in singles, capturing four of the five completed matches in straight sets. Fresno Pacific's lone singles highlight came from
Joaquin Salinas, who dominated court six with a 6-4, 6-1 win.
Despite the early advantage, the Sunbirds couldn't hold off the Roadrunners' surge, ultimately falling 4-2, wrapping up the Sunbirds season with a 10-9 overall record.Â
