SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- It was a back-and-forth affair for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds Saturday morning as they battled for a much needed 4-3 win over the Westmont Warriors.
The action began right away with doubles. The Warriors quickly took the victory on court three, needing just one more count to clinch the doubles. On Court One,
Yume Ueoku and
Daimy Paula battled, finally capitalizing on a break taking the victory 7-5. The doubles point cam down to court two, where
Halle Faherty and
Margarita Munoz were in a similar battle, needing a seven point tie breaker to decided the set. The two teams traded points until finally the 'Birds mangaed to gain the advantage and take the tie break 9-7, clinching the much needed doubles point for the Sunbirds.
Up one after doubles, the 'Birds took the singles courts. The Warriors answered back taking two quick matches on court three due to retirement and court six in straight sets, taking their first lead of the match up 2-1.
On court four, Faherty continued her momentum from the doubles into the singles, taking down her oppenent in striaght sets 6-2, 6-3 to tie the match back up for the Sunbirds at 2-2.
The match did not stay tied for long as the Warriors surged back ahead 3-2 with a straight sets win on court five.
On court one, Ueoku was in a tight match, but after dropping the first set 6-4, stormed back to take the second 6-3, and the third 6-1 to not the score back up at 3-3.
All tied up, the match came down to court two. Paula battled through a tight first set, coming out on top, but dropped her second set, only to dominate in the third, to win the match and clinch the win for the Sunbirds, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 for her third straight singles win.
UP NEXT
The Sunbirds will hop on a plane and travel cross-country to the Sunshine State for a three match road trip, kicking it off against Rollins College on March 4th at 1pm at the USTA National Campus.
