FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds walk away victorious Saturday afternoon in their season, home, and conference opener against the Biola Eagles 5-2.
In doubles play, the 'Birds took control early. On court two, the duo of
Gregor Kliimask and
Martin Ramirez continued their domination from last season defeating their Eagle opponent 6-2. Similarly on court three,
Brodie Sodersten and
Emilio Seelbach teamed up to secure a win of their own 6-3 clinching the doubles point for the 'Birds.
Singles competition saw the 'Birds carry their momentum forward.
Martin Ramirez kicked it off at No. 3 singles, making quick work in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). The Eagles secured their first point of the match taking court one, but the Sunbirds countered back with another straight set victory from Sodersten (7-6, 6-4). Kliimask clinched the win for the 'Birds on court four with a gritty three-set victory (6-1, 1-6, 6-0). Biola claimed court six for their second point. Seelbach earned the last point for the 'Birds ending the match with a three-set win (6-4, 4-6, 6-1).
