FRESNO, Calif.- Ten different Sunbirds combined for the 'Birds twenty goals as they beat the University of Redlands Bulldogs 20-11 Friday evening at the Clovis West Aquatics Center.
The Sunbirds came out firing, overwhelming the Redlands with an explosive eight-goal opening quarter.
Emma Cook set the tone with a quick goal at 7:42, followed by
Alli Hepner's back-to-back strikes.
Maggie Cook,
Tatum Benson,
Dakota Lambert, and
Summer Fulton each added to the tally, giving Fresno Pacific a commanding lead.
The Bulldogs responded with more energy in the second, outscoring the Sunbirds 4-2. The Redlands opened the quarter with a goal, but
Dakota Lambert answered swiftly for the 'Birds. The teams traded goals, with
Olivia Saldate adding one for the Sunbirds. Despite the quarter's setback, Fresno Pacific still held a comfortable 10-4 lead at halftime.
Fresno Pacific regained their offensive rhythm in the third, netting six goals.
Emma Cook and
Bella Alcazar extended the lead before
Maggie Cook took over, scoring twice in quick succession. Francis Benson and Lambert capped off the quarter, maintaining a strong advantage despite the Bulldogs' four-goal effort.
The Sunbirds controlled the final period with a balanced attack, sealing the win with four more goals. Maggie Cook continued her stellar night, scoring twice, including a penalty shot at 2:10. Emma Cook and Azevedo also contributed, ensuring the 'Birds closed out a convincing 20-11 victory.
