FRESNO, Calif. - On Wednesday afternoon, the D2CCA and the AVCA Division II announced their women's volleyball All-Region awards for the 2025 season. Fresno Pacific volleyball surged into the spotlight, collecting three AVCA First Team All-West Region selections and two D2CCA honors. To top it all off, second-year head coach
Kelsee Montagna was named the AVCA West Region Coach of the Year.
The stellar Sunbird trio of
Mikayla Weiss,
Cambria Waites and
Geneva Elliott were all selected as First Team All-West Region in the AVCA Division II honors. There were 160 student-athletes who earned All-Region honors across 85 different schools in the nation.
In addition to the west region honors, graduate setter Weiss was recently named the PacWest Setter of the Year, All-Tournament Team, and First Team All-PacWest. The Fresno State transfer stands at 866 total assists with her incredibly high game IQ, boasts 131 kills and 270 digs on the season. After switching from her setting role, senior opposite Waites has her own arsenal of honors under her belt, having been named the PacWest tournament's Most Outstanding Player, All-Tournament Team, and a two-time First Team All-PacWest selection. Thus far, the four-year Sunbird has collected 253 kills, 125 assists, and 299 digs. She currently leads the team in service aces with 33 overall. Whereas, Elliott, the starting middle for the Sunbirds, has received recognition on the national level as she sits ninth in the nation in hitting percentage. She has tallied 96 blocks this season and continues to be a deciding factor for FPU at the net with 209 kills and a .404 hitting percentage. She joins Weiss and Waites as First Team All-PacWest selection as well as a All-Tournament honoree.
The D2CCA awards were voted on by 23 of 35 west region institutions. Among the three conferences (PacWest, GNAC, and the CCAA) the PacWest Conference had the most honorees with seven overall, five being First Team and two being Second Team selections. Fresno Pacific was the second highest school with Elliott as a First Team selection and Weiss as a Second Team honoree.
Second-year head coach
Kelsee Montagna has proved her mettle time and time again this season. After being named the PacWest Conference Coach of the Year, it only makes sense that she would earn the AVCA West Region Coach of the Year with her impressive 25-1 overall record. The 2025 team has pushed forward and earned their first ever national ranking, maintained a 23 game-winning streak, and claimed their first-ever PacWest Tournament title. They currently stand as the highest ranked west region team in the nation, coming in at number eight.
"I've grown up watching these list come out throughout my growth as a collegiate coach and to be on it is a true honor. I am so proud to do it in a Sunbird logo," said head coach
Kelsee Montagna. "I also have to thank my staff and these players. They are the reason this is even possible."
As the No. 3 seed at NCAA West Regionals, Fresno Pacific will play against No. 6 seed Western Washington in an early 11 am quarterfinal match on Thursday, Dec. 4th. The winner of the match will move forward to semifinals on Friday to face the winner between Simon Fraser and Central Washington.
