Lady 'Birds Outscore Tourney Host SFSU

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Fresno Pacific women's basketball outscored San Francisco State, 72-59, at the SF Gator Classic, leading with a 47-28 rebounding advantage and scoring 18 points off turnovers.

The first quarter began with San Francisco State scoring a layup to get the game moving. Fresno Pacific responded quickly, thanks to Angela Whitfield who connected on a three-pointer to tie the game 5-5. Whitfield continued her scoring streak with another three-pointer at 7:15, giving the Sunbirds an 8-5 lead. San Francisco State's Deonna Mayfield hit a three-pointer to extend their lead to 13-8, but FPU rallied back with Kira Wilmurt's layup tying the score at 15-15. In the final minute, Remni White made two free throws to put the 'Birds ahead, closing the quarter with an 18-15 lead over SFSU.

The Blue and Orange capitalized on San Francisco State's turnovers to outscore them 23-15 in the second quarter. The visitors forced seven turnovers, which led to six points off turnovers, while connecting on five of eight 3-point attempts. Sienna Evans contributed significantly with key baskets, including a 3-pointer at 2:09. At the end of the quarter, the Sunbirds held a 41-30 lead.

The 'Birds maintained their lead in the third quarter against San Francisco State, highlighted by a key moment when Remni White sank a three-pointer at 6:37 to extend their advantage. Despite San Francisco State's efforts, the 'Birds responded with a balanced attack. Alexa Perryman contributed significantly, making a fast-break layup at 5:50 and a jumper at 3:18. The quarter concluded with Wisniewski sinking two free throws with just one second remaining, securing a 56-43 lead going into the final quarter. The quarter ended with a jumper from Wisniewski, sealing a tie in the quarter at 16 points each, but Fresno Pacific held a substantial lead overall.

Sienna Evans scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and collected seven rebounds. Whitfield recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds and added seven points, contributing two blocks as well. Wisniewski tallied 13 points and dished out four assists. Wilmurt finished with 10 points, making two of three from beyond the arc.
