MERCED, Calif. — Fresno Pacific women's basketball fell to Chico State 71-54 to close out their weekend against two CCAA opponents. The Sunbirds recorded 13 steals and scored 21 points off turnovers despite the loss.
The opening quarter began with Fresno Pacific taking an early 3-0 lead, thanks to a three-pointer by
Angela Whitfield at 9:18. Despite a strong defensive effort, including four steals, the Sunbirds struggled to convert, only making 5 of their 17 field goal attempts. Chico State capitalized on turnovers and second-chance points to gradually build a lead. The quarter concluded with the Sunbirds trailing 21-17.
In the second quarter, the Sunbirds struggled to maintain offensive momentum, but
Sienna Evans provided a spark with a fast-break layup at 7:18, briefly narrowing the gap. Despite this effort, Chico State extended their lead to 35-22 by the end of the quarter.
After the half, the 'Birds found momentum midway through the third quarter when
Mason Long sank a 3-pointer at 7:18, trimming the deficit. Evans further fueled the effort with a 3-pointer at 5:19, assisted by
Kate Evans, helping sustain the offensive push. Despite the efforts, Chico State managed to maintain their edge, closing the quarter with a narrow lead of 53–38.
In the fourth quarter, Fresno Pacific attempted to close the gap with a series of three-pointers, including a key basket by
Alexa Perryman at 1:26 to bring the score to 70–49. Long added another three-pointer at 0:57, narrowing Chico State's lead. Despite their efforts, the Sunbirds finished the quarter with a 16–18 deficit. The game concluded with the Wildcats securing a 71–54 victory.
Evans scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and added four rebounds.
Trinity Tolbert tallied eight points with two 3-pointers and recorded two steals. Long added nine points, converting three shots from beyond the arc.
Jordyn Ybarra finished with five points and collected six rebounds while making four steals.
NEXT UP: The Lady 'Birds travel to compete at the SF State Gator Invitational on November 21-22. The first match will be against Cal State San Bernardino at 5 pm, followed by the Saturday match against tournament host SFSU at 7 pm.
