Sunbirds Tested to the Limit in Thrilling Rematch with Warriors

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific men's soccer team faced Westmont for the first time since last year's PacWest Conference Championship. The 'Birds ended up falling to the Warriors 1-2 in the tightly contested match, making their record 4-5 overall and 3-1 in conference. The Sunbirds outshot the visiting Warriors, but only Brandon Lopez could find the back of the net for the Blue and Orange.

The match between Fresno Pacific and Westmont began with an assertive start from the Sunbirds. Tariq Alabi attempted an early shot, narrowly missing the target. Fresno Pacific continued to apply pressure, highlighted by Brandon Lopez scoring in the 25th minute, assisted by Chris Macias, securing a 1-0 lead.

The Sunbirds' defense held firm, with goalkeeper Elmer Carballo maintaining a clean sheet in the first half. Despite multiple attempts by Westmont to level the score, including two shots close to halftime, Fresno Pacific preserved their advantage. The first half concluded with the Sunbirds leading 1-0.

The second half began with Fresno Pacific pushing forward, quickly generating opportunities. Jacob Ramirez tested the Westmont goalkeeper early with a shot that required a save, setting an aggressive tone. Unfortunately, a red card to Westmont shifted the momentum of the game, stirring newfound energy in the visiting Warriors.

Westmont took the lead in the 56th minute with a goal from Kristian Johnson, assisted by Tiago Aranibar. Fresno Pacific responded with numerous attempts, including shots from Lopez and Ernesto Aguilera, but continued to be denied by Westmont's defense and goalkeeper Aidan Strickler.

As the half progressed, Westmont's advantage extended with another goal in the 70th minute. The Sunbirds continued to apply offensive pressure, with Chris Macias and Zion Vaughn forcing more saves from the Warriors' goalkeeper, but the half concluded with Westmont holding onto their 2-1 lead.

Macias contributed an assist and led the Sunbirds with five shots, three of which were on goal. Lopez scored one goal and recorded two shots with one on target. Julian Aran Martin managed three shots, two of which were on goal.

Fresno Pacific holds a record of 4-5 overall and stands at 3-1 in conference play.
