LOS ANGELES – The FPU track and field teams took part in the Oxy Invite on Saturday, turning in a strong performance with only a handful of competitors.
Chavez Grey continued his stellar freshman season, picking up event wins in both the shot put (16.38m/53' 9") and the discus (51.01m/167' 4") to highlight the day for the Blue and Orange.
Forrest Gray turned in his best effort of the day on his fourth attempt of the men's javelin, earning FPU a third event title with a mark of 51.36m (174' 5").
Trinity Ross came away with a share of first in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.41m (11' 2 ¼") on her third and final attempt.
On the track,
Sariyah Copeland turned in another strong day, taking sixth in the 100 (11.81) before ending her day as the top collegiate runner in the 200 (23.45). Her 200 time is now ranked eighth nationally.
Kalobe Jimenez recorded a season-best time in the men's 110 hurdles, doing so with a mark of 14.22.
The Sunbirds will head to Azusa next weekend to take part in APU's Last Chance meet with plenty on the line.
"We have about 20 men and women competing next week that are either tuning up for Nationals or fighting for a spot in," head coach
Ray Winter said. "It is the largest body of talent we have ever had at this level, and we are primed to go into the National Championship meet with more qualifiers and scorers than ever before."
