AZUSA, Calif. – The 2024 Franson Last Chance wrapped up Saturday afternoon, with the Blue and Orange turning in another strong weekend.
Nydia Chance moved into second on FPU's record books with a time of 11.61 in the women's 100 before shaving off .15 in the wind-aided semis in what likely will place her as a National qualifier. Teammate
Sariyah Copeland wasn't far behind, coming up with an 11.67 and a semis time of 11.40 to move into third on the Sunbird list.
Brianna Green recorded a time of 11.94 in the same event, placing herself on the all-time list, as well. In doing so, each of the top ten in program history is now sub-12.00. She would later add a 11.74 in the semifinals.
Alexis Ranger-Dunbar qualified for the Saturday final in the 100 hurdles, following up a big performance with a program-record time of 14.12. Copeland ran a school record 23.15 in the women's 200, lowering the previous record of 23.50 set in 2022 by Kyla Richardson and moving herself into fourth nationally.
In the men's short hurdles,
Kalobe Jimenez broke the 14-second barrier for the first time in the prelims, placing him just above the meters per second allowance for records, but he remains eligible for National qualifying.
Cullin Bates also made Saturday's final with a time of 14.20, which may also still be enough to qualify.
Garrett Fox moved into fifth all-time for FPU, recording a time of 47.78 in the men's 400.
The men's 4x100 relay team of
Zavian Cook,
Shemar Palmer,
Noah Jimenez and
Mark Smith came away with a 40.62, which ranks second all-time on the program record books.
Staying with the relays, the women's 4x400 relay squad of Copeland, Green, Ari Vera and Kenahdi Haslip produced a time of 3:39.26, good enough for second in one of the most storied record books in program history.
On the men's side, Fox, Jimenez Bates and
Bo Olsen combined to turn in a 3:12.66, third all-time for FPU. Olsen impressed as the anchor, picking up a split of 47.33, the fastest of the group for the day.
Dejan Mileusnic dominated in the men's javelin, picking up a first-place distance of 66.84m (219' 3") to tune up for Nationals. His mark was almost 35 full feet ahead of second place.
Chavez Grey continued a strong freshman campaign, finishing in fifth in the men's shot put with a distance of 16.33m (53' 7").
Official qualifying lists for the NCAA National Championships will be announced on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. CT. The meet itself will take place in Emporia, Kansas from May 23-25.
