FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a loss to the Santa Clara Broncos 15-5 at the Fresno State Aquatics Center.
The Broncos and the Sunbirds marked the first period by each scoring a pair of goals.
The goals for the Sunbirds came from Hannah Walker and a last second power play score from Maggie Cook tying the match 2-2 at the conclusion of the first.
To start the second, both teams scored on their first possessions knotting the match back up 3-3.
The tie didn't last long as the Broncos scored two additional goals before the Sunbirds were able to break through with a goal from Sierra Coyne.
Two more goals for the Broncos marked the end of the second as they took an 8-4 lead into the third.
Walker opened the third for the 'Birds with her second goal of the game to put FPU back within four, but it was close as the 'Birds would get as the Broncos shut them out for the remainder of the match.
The Broncos would grab eight more goals, four in the third and four in the fourth to seal the win 15-5.
Up next, The Sunbirds will head to La Mirada for the WWPA Conference Tournament as the third seed in the West where they will matchup with the Mercyhurst Lakers at 11:30am on Friday, April 26th.
