FRESNO, Calif.- It was a total team effort from the top to the bottom of the lineup for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds as they swept the Point Loma Sea Lions Saturday afternoon 4-0.
The doubles team of Ben Cronau and Sven Bangert got the 'Birds rolling early with a 6-4 victory on Court 1.
PLNU evened the score with a 6-4 win on Court 3.
It all came down to Court 2 where Emilio Seelbach and Brodie Sodersten came through big capitalizing on the lone service break to take the set 7-5 and the point the 'Birds.
In the singles, Ravi Nelson kept the momentum rolling for the Sunbirds on Court 1 with a massive straight set victory 6-1, 6-4 victory.
On Court 3, Cronau earned the 'Birds their third point of the day.
Cronau completed the comeback after dropping the first set 6-4, to take the second 6-3 and the third 6-2.
The game clinching match fell again for the second time this week on Sodersten on Court 2.
Sodersten was in a back-and-forth battle winning the first 6-2, but dropping the second 6-3.
It all came down the third set where Sodersten stepped on the gas and didn't let up cruising to 6-2 victory clinching the match and the sweep for the Sunbirds.
When play was halted due to rain, Martin Ramirez was also in a third set battle on Court 4 after taking the first 6-3, dropping the second 7-5, and was up in the third 5-2.
On Court 5, Seelbach won the first 6-3, and was tied at 2-2 in the second and on Court 6 Angel Espana was tied 3-3.
The Sunbirds will take a much deserved week of rest and be back again as they host Biola Eagles Saturday at 6pm.
