FRESNO, Calif.- Felicia Dourva joined the 1,000 career-point club,
Maesyn Rix posted her 8
th double-double of the season and the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (15-5 overall, 9-3 PacWest) improved to 8-0 at home this season behind a stifling 51-39 victory over the Hawai'i Pacific Sharks (5-13 overall, 3-9 PacWest) Saturday afternoon in the Special Events Center.
Dourva hit a three to kickstart the FPU offense after a slow offensive start over the first three minutes.
Olivia Garcia had five points in the middle of FPU's run that grabbed a lead they would not relinquish.
Dourva's second bucket of the game started the second quarter, and put her exactly on 1,000 career points, momentarily stretching FPU's lead to seven points.
But HPU hung around throughout the second quarter and kept it within two scores until Dourva closed the half with a runner at the buzzer, the second half-ending shot of the homestand for the grad student.
That would be the trigger for a 19-3 FPU run that spanned the entire third quarter, as FPU just conceded three points in the entire period.
Julie Ramirez scored a bulk of her nine points in the period as Fresno Pacific stretched the lead up to as much as 16 points in the third.
The fourth was the only quarter in which FPU was outscored, but the game was in hand by that point.
Rix and Dourva both added baskets before the final minutes and HPU fouled up until the final 39 seconds.
Dourva finished with a game-high 15 points, giving her 1,010 for her career with eight games to play.
Rix chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds to add to her PacWest leading total of double-doubles.
FPU finishes the homestand 3-0 to improve to 8-0 inside the Special Events Center on the season.
The 'Birds will head to the Bay Area for games against Dominican and ART U on Thursday and Saturday before returning on February 15
th for the beginning of a four game homestand.
