LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds came up just short losing in heartbreaking fashion 5-2 Saturday afternoon in a PacWest matchup with the Biola Eagles.
On court 3, the duo of
Martin Ramirez and
Gregor Kliimask put away the Eagles in dominant fashion 6-2.
The #6 ITA West Regional ranked
Brodie Sodersten and
Emilio Seelbach followed quickly behind after securing the break and clinching the win 6-4.
With wins on court 2 and 3, the Sunbirds to took the doubles point.
The Eagles got their first point of the match winning in straight sets on court six.
At 1-1, Biola followed it up with another pair of wins on court one and five.
Three set battles ensued on courts three, four and two.
Kliimask secured the victory on court three for his second win of the day, giving the Sunbirds their second point of the day.
On court four,
Cedric Kaufmann won the first set 6-3, before dropping the second 6-1.
The third came down to 5-5, when the Eagles Flores managed to break Kauffman to take the final set 7-5.
Court two also came down to a third set as Sodersten took the first 6-3, dropped the second 3-6, and fell 7-5 after dropping serve at 5-5 for the Eagles Solorzano to take the break and the win.
With the close wins on court two and four, the Eagles took the match 5-2.
The Sunbirds will head home for their first home match of the season against Bakersfield Saturday at 2pm at the Haak Tennis Center.
