FRESNO, Calif.- A slow offensive start quickly turned into one that got away as the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (6-14 overall, 4-8 PacWest) fell 66-50 to the Hawai'i Pacific Sharks (13-7 overall, 8-4 PacWest) Saturday evening at the Special events Center.
Neither team could score over the first five minutes with score remaining locked at 0.
Harrison Pennisi scored the first two baskets for FPU but walked out to an 8-4 lead at the midway point of the first half.
Things opened up offensively over the last nine minutes of the half but it was Hawai'i Pacific holding a 35-18 lead at the break.
The difference would grow into the 20's for much of the second half before FPU's offense found some consistency.
But the 7-0 run to close the game wasn't enough to catchup.
Pennisi led the way with 19 points, averaging 20 on the week, while
Isaac Peralta added 11.
Fresno Pacific will be on the road next week for games against Dominican and ART U before returning to the Special Events Center on February 15
