Sunbirds Sweep Throws, Relays at Home Invite

RESULTS

FRESNO, Calif.-
The consistent rain Saturday afternoon led to difficult conditions but the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds Track and Field team did their best to shine through, anchored by a strong throwing day at the 2024 Sunbird Invitational at Sunnyside High School and Ramirez Field.

Before the rain made for a soggy afternoon, the FPU throws team delivered highlights on repeat. The 'Birds comfortably won all four throwing events on the men's side.

Jesse Franco, Chavez Grey, and Forrest Gray all delivered PR's in the hammer, discus and javelin respectively.

Franco's PR of 60.85m in the hammer broke the mark he set two weeks ago at home, winning the event by nearly 10 meters.

Grey won both the discus and the shot put, with his standout performance coming with a PR of 51.26m in the discus and landing him fourth all-time in FPU history (168-02).

Gray didn't win the javelin, but took second to teammate Dejan Mileusnic, with a huge PR of 59.64m taking 5th in FPU's record books.

Hope Erwin won the discus and shot put on the women's side to highlight a strong day for FPU's throwers.

While the rain started to soak the conditions at Sunnyside Track, the Fresno Pacific relay teams closed out their only home meet by flooding the competition.

The 'Birds won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays on both the men's and women's side.

The Sunbirds held off Fresno State in the men's 4x100 for the win in the narrowest of the four victories.

The women's 4x400 battled through the rain to win by over 18 seconds.

Alexis Ranger-Dunbar and Kalobe Jimenez both scored wins in the 100m and 110m hurdles, respectively.

Lorraine Mankins set a PR in the Pole Vault while grabbing the win for FPU at 10-06.00.

The Sunbirds occupied three of the top five spots in the triple jump with Adrian Hodges taking the win with a mark of 14.43m

Ariana Vera also won the 100m dash and Shemar Palmer took the crown in the 200m.

14 seniors were honored before the relays for their final home meet.

Next up for FPU is the Chico State Multi's on February 22nd in Chico, California.
