Sunbirds Tab Kelsee Montagna to Lead Volleyball Program

FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbird Volleyball program will be under the leadership of head coach Kelsee Montagna, Director of Athletics Kyle Ferguson announced Thursday.

"We are excited to welcome Keslee as the new FPU Volleyball coach," Ferguson said. "She brings a profound passion for the sport and a commitment to our student-athletes and campus community.  We look forward to the future of FPU volleyball being grounded in glorifying God in the classroom, the greater Fresno community, and on the volleyball court."

Montagna, a Madera native, comes to FPU as the Director for Valley Volleyball Club and has served as an assistant coach for Fresno City College's indoor and beach volleyball programs.

"I'm so excited to be able help these student-athletes with academics, athletics and their Christian faith," Montagna said in response to what is most appealing about FPU Volleyball. "I'm so appreciative of Kyle and Fresno Pacific for this opportunity. The volleyball community at FPU and the FPU community is very positive. I'm excited to reconnect the bridges in the volleyball community within the Central Valley"

Prior to her position at FCC, Montagna was the head coach at Cabrillo College for both the indoor and beach volleyball teams leading the Seahawks to three conference titles, a state tournament appearance and earned Coach of the Year accolades in 2019.

Montagna was named to the AVCA 30 under 30 in 2022.

"Another big component of this opportunity is helping connect our alumni to our current group," Montagna added. "The alumni from FPU have such a big impact in our sport in this community. I've been around FPU my whole life and remember watching games as a young player. Being able to return to the community at FPU and be the head coach is a dream come true."

Montagna becomes the 8th head coach in the program's history and inherits a group of 12 returners that finished 13-16 in 2023.

"We have a lot of returners," Montagna said. "Having the core group back and those relationships already established within themselves is so important. For me, it's about how we amplify that. There's huge potential already and we will make sure we keep the culture positive and on the right track in the gym and in life."

Montagna officially begins her Fresno Pacific duties on February 20th, 2024.
