RESULTS
MONTECITO, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds flexed their depth as they basked in the sun of Westmont's Sunshine Open on Saturday, with a few name names being etched into the school record books.
Shemar Palmer and
Garrett Fox went 1-2 in the 200m race with Palmer overtaking his teammate for second in FPU history with a 21.01.
Palmer broke the Westmont stadium record that was set in 2013.
Mark Smith took 8
th in the event with a 22.37.
On the women's side,
Ariana Vera won the race outright with a time of 25.09.
Sariyah Copeland took third while
Brianna Green and
Nydia Chance took 6
th and 7
th.
Shaniya Randoph rounded out the top ten while
Alexis Ranger-Dunbar and
Aubrianna Smith completed the strong showing for FPU with the whole squad finishing in the top half of the field.
Ranger-Dunbar earned her win in the 60m hurdles with a 9.16.
The men's 4x400 relay nearly missed the FPU record books with TWO teams.
The Sunbirds were racing against themselves as the team of
Jackson Paramo,
Cullin Bates, Palmer and
Bo Olsen took 1
st with a time of 3:16.47, just 0.1 from 10
th all-time.
Fox,
Jerome Brown,
Kalobe Jimenez, and
Zavian Cook were right on their heels and took 2
nd in the event, more than eight seconds ahead of third place.
And yet another group of Sunbirds made up of Olsen, Cook,
Emanuel Salas, and
Bryan Banuelos took 2
nd in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:11.06.
The women's 4x400 simply won a tight race with Vanguard with Green, Randolph,
Kenadhi Haslip and Vera posting a time of 3:54.14.
In the throwing events, FPU was equally impressive.
Chavez Grey made the FPU record books in the shot put, winning the event with a flat 17.00m, and lodging himself 3
rd in school in history.
Dejan Mileusnic won another Javelin competition, this time splitting the winning mark of 65.40m.
Forrest Gray took third in the event but lands sixth in school history with his second attempt at
57.71m (
189' 4").
Bates and
Kalobe Jimenez were 2
nd and 3
rd in the 60m hurdles, with Bates 8.12 leading all Division II competitors.
Fox set a PR in the 60m dash with a 7.00 flat, taking 7
th in the hyper-competitive event.
Noah Jimenez's 7.03 was good enough for 9
th in the field.
Bryan Trujillo ran the 800m in 2:03, good enough for 4
th place in the event.
Freshman
Jansen Gillig set a PR in the 3k with a time of 8:49.31
Fresno Pacific will host its lone home event of the season with the Sunbird Invitational on Saturday the 17
th split between Ramirez Field (Throws) and Sunnyside High School
(Track).
