'Birds Struggle on Day Two of Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds dropped a pair of games on day two of the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament. 

GAME ONE

The first game of the day was a morning match up with the Air Force Falcons. 

The game started with intensity as Air Force scored quickly.

Fresno Pacific responded just seconds later, with Tristin Fox, assisted by Jordan Lambert, leveling the score at 1-1.

However, Air Force picked up momentum, scoring four additional goals.

By the end of the period, Air Force led Fresno Pacific 5-1.

Air Force extended their lead early in the second period, netting two quick goals, making it 7-1.

Despite Air Force's dominance, Fresno Pacific fought back with goals from Christiano Sandino and Blake Johnson.

The Sunbirds tried to keep pace, adding another goal by Forrest Gray near the end of the period.

Still, Air Force maintained control, closing the period with a 12-5 lead.

The Sunbirds rallied in the third period, showing resilience and strategic play.

Forrest Gray opened scoring for the 'Birds, followed by a power play goal from Eugenio Maldonado.

The Falcons managed three goals, but the Sunbirds kept pushing.

Christian Clark and Gray each added goals for the Sunbirds, narrowing the deficit.

Despite Fresno Pacific's efforts, Air Force held a 15-12 lead going into the final period.

In the final period, Air Force capitalized on multiple opportunities to secure their lead.

Air Force scored early, with Pietro Cattano and Maldonado adding two goals for Fresno Pacific.

However, the Falcons continued to press offensively, ending the game with a final goal.

The game concluded with the Falcons defeating the Sunbirds 21-13.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day was an afternoon matchup with the #19 Brown Bears. 

Brown opened the scoring with a pair of quick goals. 

Fresno Pacific responded with Forrest Gray scoring at 4:54, bringing the score to 2-1.

However, Brown continued to press adding another two goals, widening their lead.

Forrest Gray struck again at 0:47 for Fresno Pacific, but Brown scored with 37 seconds left.

The 'Birds managed a last-second power play goal by Eugenio Maldonado, ending the period with the Bears leading 5-3.

Brown maintained control early in the second period, scoring twice in quick succession, putting Fresno Pacific in a 7-3 deficit.

Christiano Sandino found the back of the net for the 'Birds narrowing the gap to 7-4.

However, Brown continued to apply pressure with an additional two goals .

The Sunbirds fought back, with goals from Maldonado, Samuel Ramos, and Christian Clark, bringing the score to 11-7 in favor of the Bears at the end of the half.

The third period saw Brown extend their lead scoring multiple goals, including a late goal at the buzzer.

Pietro Cattano scored a penalty goal at 2:59, giving Fresno Pacific a brief respite, but Brown answered back with a strong offensive push, scoring a trio of goals ending the period with Brown ahead 16-9.

In the final period, the 'Birds showed resilience, with Maldonado scoring twice bringing Fresno Pacific closer at 16-11.

However, Brown closed out the game with a final goal, ending the game with a final score of 17-11 in favor of the Bears. 

Fresno Pacific will close out the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament tomorrow with a final game against the LIU Sharks at 12pm.
