Nevarez Makes 13 Saves but 'Birds Fall to San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif.-After falling behind early, two second half goals led to a 3-0 loss for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (0-3 overall) on the road to the San Marcos Cougars (2-0 overall) Thursday afternoon at the Cage.

San Marcos opened the scoreline in the 16th minute when a trio of shots were deflected but left uncleared prior to the Cougars pushing in their goal.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, FPU conceded two more goals in the second half.

Sunbird keeper Monique Nevarez and the backline did their best to obstruct the 25 shots the Cougars took for the match.

Nevarez made 13 saves as Fresno Pacific worked to keep the San Marcos attack away.

Maria Magnusdottir took a lion's share of the FPU attack, taking three shots and putting two on goal, but the Sunbirds were held without a goal as the 3-0 scoreline held up.

Fresno Pacific concludes the road trip at Cal Poly Pomona 7pm on Saturday night at Kellogg Field.
