Rare Mistakes at Home Cost FPU Perfect Homestand vs. Hilo

FRESNO, Calif.-Rare mistakes at home cost the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (5-4 overall, 2-1 PacWest) a 2-0 loss to the Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans (5-3 overall, 2-1 PacWest) Saturday evening on Ramirez Field.

The loss snapped a five-match unbeaten streak at home for the Sunbirds.

Hilo took the advantage in the first half as Gabriel Gallardo found Andrew Rehedual after a turnover, for a goal in the 25th minute.

The Vulcans doubled their advantage in the second half when a hand-ball was called in the box against FPU.

Colby Lee cashed in the penalty to put FPU in a 2-0 deficit.

Fresno Pacific had only conceded one other goal in the previous four games at home over the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, the 'Birds were kept out of goal by some excellent goalkeeping by the Vulcans as Christian Souza made seven saves to collect the clean sheet.

He denied a couple of brilliant efforts from Chris Macias and another from Stephan Morris.

Fresno Pacific hits the road for four straight road matches, beginning next Saturday at Westmont.
