2nd Half Flurry Extends 'Birds Home Win Streak to 5

FRESNO, Calif.-A flurry of second half goals helped the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (5-3 overall, 2-0 PacWest) put away the Hawai'i Pacific Sharks (1-6-2 overall, 0-2-0 PacWest) 3-0 Thursday night at Ramirez Field.

The win gives FPU its best conference start in 7 seasons while extending its home record to 5-0 on the season.

The first half saw each team slog through the first 45 minutes to a 0-0 standstill. There were nearly as many yellow cards (3) as either team had shots.

The Sunbirds picked up another yellow in the second half before finding their rhythm.

In the 63rd minute, Chris Macias delivered the corner towards the back-post where Stephan Morris got his head and directed the ball to the top left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Minutes later, FPU doubled the advantage as Morris kept the HPU clearance in the attacking third before dropping a pass off to Joao Perez along the left sideline.

Perez dribbled to the left corner of the '18 and curled a right-footed shot inside the far post to improve FPU's position to 2-0 with just 17 minutes remaining.

The 'Birds added one more goal with a few minutes left as Giovanni Segovia played a ball into the box where Guilherme Marinho was able to cash it in for the freshman's second consecutive match with a goal and a 3-0 lead.

While the offense flexed its might in the second half, the defense was solid throughout with keeper Elmer Carballo keeping his second consecutive clean sheet and third in the last four matches.

The 'Birds have pitched shutouts in four of their five home wins this season, not allowing a goal over the last 191 minutes of action.

Offensively, Macias kept his point streak alive on the Morris goal, tallying his third assist of the year.

The Sunbirds aim to complete a perfect homestand on Saturday when they host Hawai'i Hilo at 5:00 p.m. on Ramirez Field.
