LA MIRADA, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (4-6 overall, 1-1 PacWest were handed their first loss in PacWest conference play this season by the Biola Eagles (7-3 overall, 3-0 PacWest) Saturday afternoon in Chase Gymnasium.

The 'Birds came out hot in the first set, hitting .323 for the frame, and managed to pull away early with multiple point runs before the Eagles could find an answer.

The Sunbirds closed the set 25-15 on a scoring frenzy with three kills from Corinne Acosta, a kill from Makena Ogas and Geneva Elliott.

FPU closed the first set with their strong defense as well, posting its highest side out  of the match at 81%.

In the second, multiple FPU errors handed Biola the early lead.

Much like FPU in the first set, the Eagles went on a run of their own leading by as much as five.

The Sunbirds managed to rally within one at 18-17, winning eight out of the next ten points.

The comeback, however, wasn't enough as the Eagles captured the set 25-23.

The battle continued in the third, with the most tie scores of the match at five with two different lead changes.

Despite being in the set early, the Sunbirds fell behind after multiple attack and service errors.

Off the errors, the Eagles pulled away to take the third 25-18.

The fourth was all Eagles as the Sunbirds struggled to find an answer and dropped the set and the match 25-10.

The Sunbirds ended the match with 49 errors with 14 coming from the service line, the highest total of the season.

Claire Corippo finished the match led the 'Birds with 9 kills.

The Sunbirds will look to bounce back next Wednesday in San Francisco against the Academy of Art at 6:30pm.
