FRESNO, Calif.-Julian Aran Martin hustle into the box rewarded
Chris Macias' stellar effort as the two linked up for a late goal that proved to be the difference in the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (2-3 overall) earned its second consecutive 1-0 home win, knocking down the Stanislaus State Warriors (1-3 overall) Wednesday night on Ramirez Field.
The first 30 minutes were fairly uneventful with Macias unleashing the Sunbirds lone shot on goal in that span.
Stan State generated a few chances, but FPU keeper
Elmer Carballo handled the shots cleanly to turn away the Warriors.
Stan State held the edge at the half with six shots, while FPU had just one.
Fresno Pacific swung the momentum in the second half, taking a majority of the chances over the next half hour.
The Sunbirds closest attempt came on a
Liam Nichols-Shipley service into the box that
Lucas Ribeiro headed directly at the keeper with high velocity.
The Warriors' Robby Rosas made the save and the score continued in a 0-0 deadlock.
Fresno Pacific finally found the difference maker in the 78
th minute when Macias delivered a cross from the right side of the goal across the box that found the top of Ribeiro's head before Aran Martin redirected inside the back post for the goal.
That held up for the final minute as FPU secured its second consecutive 1-0 victory at home.
It also extended Ribeiro's streak of four consecutive matches with an assist.
FPU will be back on Ramirez Field on Saturday, hosting Cal Poly Humboldt at 7:00 pm.
